Energy and the Poor

Conservative leader Harry Jackson advocates for a change in the way our government addresses energy, due to its effect on the poor.

I agree with his analysis. The liberal movement may talk a good game when it comes to helping the poor, but they are not putting their money where their mouth is. While the average family spends about a nickel of every dollar earned on energy, a low income family spends anywhere from 20-50% of their dollar earned on energy.

The liberal leadership of the Democratic Party has consistently enacted policies that will constrict the flow of energy into our markets. They do this to force consumers to stop using oil. They have no problem with this policy because most liberals are well off and have no problem paying their energy bills. Those living in poverty however, will ultimately suffer due the the actions of an overbearing government.

President Obama has spent a lot of time talking about how he is going to help the poor. Is raising energy prices going to accomplish that aim?

Meanwhile, Gov. Sarah Palin has secured a Natural Gas pipeline that will pump an abundant energy resource into our energy markets, this will help the poor by lowering energy costs. Providing that President Obama and the liberal Congress do not restrict energy development elsewhere. Other Republicans including Gov. Mike Huckabee, Gov. Bobby Jindal, and Rep. Mike Pence have advocated for a greater supply of energy to be pumped into our markets. These Conservative leaders understand what the Democrats used to understand. That the free market can be used to help the poor.

So here is the question, who is doing more to help the poor on a practical level, President Obama or the Conservatives that oppose him?

Freedom for the Few

President Obama lifted the restriction on federal funds going to pay for abortions overseas.

In his inaugural Pres. Obama said the he would support freedom for all. During the campaign he stated that he would reduce abortions. This is a slap in the face to America's students many of whom are being taken advantage of by these same insidious abortion providers. Is this freedom for all?

Actions speak louder than words.http://www.foxnews.com/politics/first100days/2009/01/23/obama-lift-ban-overseas-abortion-funding/

Sarah Palin Takes Initiative

Governor Sarah Palin is taking the initiative when it comes to accessing the God-given resources the state of Alaska has to offer. This will benefit all of us because Alaska's energy benefits those of us in the "Lower Forty-Eight." Sarah is proving that she is a solutions oriented leader. Seriously, take a look at this energy plan. It calls for 50% of Alaska's electricity to come from renewable sources by 2025. This is, perhaps, the boldest energy plan in America today. It is also federalism in action.

Cementing Virginia

Ken Blackwell lays out a compelling reason for Republicans to oppose Pres-Elect Obama's stimulus package. He brings up a previously unexplored point that many of these new federal "jobs" are going to be placed in Virginia and Maryland. Mr. Blackwell points out that this could give Obama an extra few thousand votes here in Virginia. I don't know about you, but I don't like the idea of Obama stuffing our ballot boxes.

They Just Won't Take No for an Answer

This past year the people of California, Florida, and Arizona passed amendments to their state constitutions defining marriage as a union between one man and one woman. They made it very clear that they did not want gay marriage, and yet, you still have an activist judiciary who mull the possibility of overturning the will of the people in these states. When will the liberal establishment take no for an answer. The people have spoken. There is nothing in the Constitution giving people the right to redifine marriage. As a matter of fact, our Founding Fathers opposed the practice of polygamy on the same grounds as cultural conservatives such as myself oppose gay marriage. Attempts to redifine marriage have always been harmful to our nation.

Just today there is word that Pres-Elect Obama intends to repeal the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy at the behest of the homosexual lobby. This has the potential to reduce reenlistment rates in our military among soldiers who do not approve of this behavior. It is time for the liberal leadership to stop pushing their lack of values on the American people.

Media Monster

The 2008 Presidential Election showed the sad state to which our media has fallen. Commentators masquerading as journalists fawned over Barack Obama, while tearing into an American Hero, John McCain. Even more disquusting was there treatment of Governor Sarah Palin.

So now the election is over, they have better things to do now, right? wrong. The media is as relentless as ever. From CNN's putting Gov. Palin in the same category as fmr. Gov. Spitzer and Gov. Blago, to a member of the media writing a book about Gov. Palin's "rise" and "fall from grace," the media is continuing their smears against Sarah Palin. They are doing this one, because the media culture hates God and takes it out on those who follow Him. Two, they fear Sarah Palin. Sixty-seven percent of Republicans and Independants want to see her run for President. The bigots in the media will continue to spew nonsense in the name of journalism, but because of their bias they are slowly on the decline. In the mean time their blatant disregard for the truth is a disgrace to the First Amendment.

Bob McDonnell for Governor

American Youth is endorsing Bob McDonnell for Governor in 2009. He has an extensive record in public service in the House of Delegates, the office of Attorney General, and in the United States military. Bob McDonnell will provide sound conservative leadership, he is pro-life, pro-family, and believes in efficient government. His record in the House of Delegates shows that he is a workhorse, and he knows how to work with Democrats in a constructive way to get things done. He will provide a clear contrast to the hyper-partisan administration that we currently have.

Tim Kaine to head DNC

Reports say that Gov. Tim Kaine has been tapped to head the Democratic National Committee. As governor he first said he would not raise taxes and now he is . He is finally cutting spending, however, he decided to cut spending for little things like public safety. His spend then tax policies have also given us a 2 billion dollar budget shortfall. I think most Virginians would say that his policies were more liberal than that of Gov. Warner.

What do you think?
